The NHL started tonight! I caught a little bit of Habs/Leafs, which is always fun (even if you hate both teams, you can admire a rivalry game). Check out the most likely lines for Thursday’s opener here at Sabres.com, subject to change if another goalie or D-man goes down. I like the lines that I’ve seen so far, but with the limited pre-season and practice time, that’s a small sample size.
It’ll be interesting to see just how good the team is. Like I talked about before, they aren’t technically, on paper, better. However much Tuch struggled in the playoffs, the man was a rock and a solid performer through a lot of lean years. The youngsters, some rocking new deals or trying to earn them, have to fill some gaps. I would’ve liked to see a move at goalie, but it takes two to tango (as the Hellebuyck situation gets more and more interesting).
I don’t know how it goes this year. My *casual* prediction is a hot start, some mid-season struggles, and they figure it out again late in the year. I know that’s basically what we had last year, but it seems the most likely scenario for a team with a lot of young guys and new guys in key spots.
Listen, I got a solid raise this year, and if my hot water heater doesn’t crap out, I might be able to see some games. I’m already looking at tickets with my daughter. I want to be there from the start. We might watch the Bills, but this is a Sabres house. Join me, won’t you?
